Kirsty's work in schools
................
In 2011, Kirsty Shadiac began running Artist in Residence Programs in South Australian primary schools, launching with the Basil Sellers Sporting Art Project for Kids—a creative initiative fully funded by Basil Sellers AM, a Sydney-based philanthropist.
The project began after a chance encounter when Basil visited one of Kirsty’s kids art classes in Sydney. Inspired by her work, he offered to fund a children’s art competition with a sporting theme. The idea quickly evolved into a full program designed to inspire creativity and develop artistic skills in children using sport as the subject matter. It’s even hoped that one day, a student might go on to enter the prestigious Basil Sellers Art Prize in Melbourne.
The first school to host the program was Goodwood Primary School in Adelaide. Kirsty visited weekly to work with Year 1/2 students, and the program concluded with a collaborative sporting mural that remains on permanent display at the school.
Next, Kirsty brought the program to Holy Family Catholic School in Parafield Gardens, where she worked with 30 students—one from each class—to create individual artworks and a group piece titled The Tree, now displayed in the school.
These programs reflect Kirsty’s passion for combining art with education in meaningful ways. She is deeply grateful to Basil Sellers for his vision and support.
Please note: Kirsty is not currently running school programs, but enquiries are welcome for future opportunities or collaborative projects.
