Kirsty's work in hospitals

ABOUT KIRSTY SHADIAC

Kirsty was born in Adelaide in 1983, and even as a child she was always drawing pictures! Her two passions are working with kids and creating art.

After finishing school in 2000, Kirsty studied graphic design and worked at St Patrick’s Special School (for kids with intellectual disabilities). In 2004, Kirsty moved to Sydney to work at Art House Gallery (Rushcutters Bay). During her time at the gallery, she relished the opportunity to work with some highly successful contemporary Australian artists.

From 2007 to 2009 Kirsty became a Surf Life Saver with Coogee Beach (NSW), volunteered for 2 week-long camps with Camp Quality, and volunteered at Sydney Children’s Hospital creating artworks with kids in the oncology ward. Through her work at the Sydney Children’s Hospital, Kirsty was asked to create a huge mural in the neighbouring Prince of Wales Hospital (Randwick, NSW) for the radiation treatment ward.

In 2007 Kirsty started her kids art classes in Paddington (NSW) which, in 2010, branched out to include North Adelaide (SA).

In 2009 Kirsty put together her first solo exhibition, “Mud” in which 2 of her artworks were acquired for the Sydney Children’s Hospital Public Art Collection. In 2010 Kirsty moved back to Adelaide to be closer to her family and she put together her second exhibition “Happiness” which won her the SALA (South Australian Living Artists) Festival, Rip It Up, Young Emerging Artist Award.

Kirsty paints in her home studio in Cumberland Park in addition to running the kids art classes, and working as Captain “Creative” Starlight at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital with the Starlight Children’s Foundation. She has just completed running artist-in-residence programs within 2 Adelaide primary schools (Goodwood Primary School and Holy Family School), who now have public artworks on permanent display.
